CPT J1020-Discontinued Code

It has come to our attention that the CPT code J1020 is no longer supported by CMS as of March 31, 2024. What code are we supposed to bill for injections that include methyl prednisolone?

Effective April 1st, HCPCS code J2919 should be used for methylprednisone injections. HCPCS codes J1020, J1030 and J1040 are end dated as of April 1st. When billing, be mindful of the number of vials used when injecting a patient. 4 units for HCPCS J2919 should be billed on a claim for every one unit typically billed for HCPCS J1020 to prevent under billing the injectable.
